Area residents will have greater access to University of Rochester Medicine through a new collaboration with the YMCA.

The agreement, which runs through 2029, will make a range of health services available at YMCA locations across the region.

President at CEO of the Greater Rochester YMCA George Romell says this is to meet the increased needs of communities and bring medicine to where people are.

"As we take this to a much higher level, I think we'll see things that we've never seen before, which is where medicine and community come together."

Services will include clinical programs, dental health, sports performance and injury prevention clinics, and prevention care.

It’s the an expansion of a pilot program launched in 2014. The Eastside YMCA in Penfield implemented a physicians practice inside their location.

Mark Taubman is the CEO of UR Medicine says two more YMCA locations will be getting practices.

"Instead of people coming to us, we will make programs available where more than 100,000 already go for fitness, childcare and summer camp.

The Eastside YMCA will be opening to treat cardiology patients later this year as well.

These new services will be open to the public, not just YMCA members.
