Wrapping up power restoration for RG&E customers

RG&E says it met its goal of restoring power to more than 90 percent of customers affected by last Wednesday’s windstorm just before midnight on Sunday.

The company says since the start of the event, more than 114,000 Rochester customers were impacted, and just before midnight all but about 7,800     customers in Monroe County were back online. As of 7:30am Monday, the RG&E website still listed about 8,000 customers without power.

The company says nearly 3,000 field personnel and hundreds of support personnel have been working continuously with the goal of having most of the remaining customers back on line by Monday night.

Customers who have an outage and do not see their street address listed on the outage page are encouraged to report the outage online or by calling 1-800-743-1701.

Customers can get the latest outage counts; outage locations by county, municipality and streets/roads; and estimated restoration times (as they are available) on the company’s website

Line and forestry crews from several states and Canada were helping out; The National Guard was brought in as well to help with clearing debris and transportation.

On Saturday, Governor Cuomo was critical of the utility’s preparedness in how it handled the storm and said the NYS Public Service Commission would be reviewing the whole operation.

AVANGRID, parent company of RG&E and NYSEG had issued a statement saying that it was focused on restoring service safely and efficiently and that it will respond to the PSC’s concerns when it gets a formal notice of any inquiries.
