Wegmans says a record $1.84 million was raised by customers at 51 of its supermarkets during last fall's hunger relief checkout scanning program. That's an eight percent increase from the previous year.
The various 'check out hunger' campaigns allow customers to donate any amount at the checkout with 100 percent of the proceeds going to each store's local food bank.
In our region, Foodlink, will receive nearly $682,000 from the most recent campaign, money that was collected from 21 Rochester area Wegmans supermarkets.
