Wegmans leads new consumer survey on supermarkets

Another top ranking for Wegmans.

The Rochester-based supermarket chain has topped a lot of customer satisfaction polls over the years, and this latest survey comes from Market Force Information, a market research company which conducted this latest poll in an online survey of nearly 13,000 shoppers.

Wegmans finished #1 for  the third straight year in this survey, edging out Florida-based Publix Supermarkets.

Last year, in this same survey, Wegmans and Publix tied for first place.  When Wegmans took first place in 2016, it beat out long running favorite Trader Joe’s. That chain came in #3 in this latest annual survey.

In the survey just released, Wegmans and Publix scored highest on store cleanliness and item availability, but Wegmans won the top spot for its specialty department services, including a deli, coffee shop and bakery.

According to the trade publication Supermarket News, MarketForce says that Wegmans has created "a legion of super-fans eager for a new location to open near their home."

Wegmans is set to open its 98th in September in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
