A 1,200 mile oil pipeline running through four states is the source of a standoff attracting national attention. The Dakota Access pipeline which was designed to transport about 500,000 barrels of crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois would run near the Standing Rock Sioux reservation. What some call an economic boon, others call a threat to Native American lands and sacred burial grounds. And activists from varied interest groups are getting involved in this fight. On this edition of Need to Know, Distinguished Professor of History at SUNY Geneseo, Michael Oberg, explains the possible future of the pipeline.
