Wal-Mart Settles Investigation Over Soda Sales

State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says that Wal-Mart has agreed to a settlement in a false advertising investigation which was handled by staffers from the A-G's Rochester office.

The investigation involved claims that Wal-Mart advertised a nationwide sale of Coca-Cola but charged customers in their 117 stores across New York State more than the advertised sale price.

Schneiderman says that in June, the company launched a Father's Day sale which included 12-packs of Coke for $3.00.  But when consumers in New York State tried to buy them, they were routinely charged $3.50.

The investigation also determined a similar  issue happened with Coke products in March. The settlement requires Wal-Mart to pay more than $66,000 in penalties and other costs, to improve its internal reporting and to change business practices to comply with state law.

A Wal Mart  spokesman says they're enhancing procedures to ensure proper promotional pricing.
