Vice President Joe Biden is coming to Rochester on Monday. That according to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter who released this statement:
“I am truly excited to welcome my longtime friend and former colleague, Vice President Joe Biden, in Rochester on Monday,” said Rep. Slaughter. “I’m terribly bullish on Rochester and my friends in the White House hear it from me all the time – we’re home to innovative companies, a highly skilled workforce, world-class education institutions, and so much more. I welcome Vice President Biden to Rochester.”
Other details of when and where Biden will speak have not been released yet, but it’s expected he’ll talk about the news that leaked out on Wednesday about the federal government deciding to fund an institute for photonics in Rochester. Photonics involves the use of light and optics in a number of applications, and area officials have said the designation could eventually add thousands of jobs to the local economy.
Slaughter has been working for more than three years to get the institute headquartered in Rochester. The federal designation is expected to mean $110 million in funding, and an investment of $250 million by New York State.
Biden was in Rochester in early 2014, when he visited MCC's Applied Technologies Center.
