UR announces Interim President appointment

sas.rochester.edu

Just a day after University of Rochester President Joel Seligman announced he’ll be stepping down at the end of February, the university has announced the appointment of an interim president.

The announcement came from board chair Danny Wegman, who says that Professor Richard Feldman, who served as Dean of the College from 2006 until last year will take that role.

Feldman has been involved with the university for more than 40 years, and his tasks included serving as co-chair of the 2016 Presidential Commission on Race and Diversity.

Wegman says that even before he formally steps in as interim president on March 1, the Board of Trustees has asked Feldman to take responsibility for leading the effort to respond to the independent investigation report that was released this week, and to help develop a plan to act on the report’s recommendations.

That report looked into allegations of sexual harassment by a professor and the university’s response to that issue.  It generally said that university policies were not violated, but that there could be improvements in various policies and procedures.
