University Of Rochester President Back At Work

University of Rochester President Joel Seligman has returned to work after his recent lung surgery.

Seligman told the campus community in a newsletter that eleven days ago he had successful surgery to remove a small nodule in his right lung. He says it did contain a cancer called Adenocarcinoma.  Seligman says tests just completed show that the malignancy was limited to the nodule and did not spread to any adjacent lymph cells.

Seligman says that the cure rate is very high and resulted in the surgery removing only a wedge of the lung rather than the full lobe. He says no chemotherapy or radiation will be needed and he has already largely recovered from the surgery.

To play it safe, Seligman says he will ease back into a normal schedule over the next few weeks.

The 64 year old Seligman was treated for non-Hodgkins Lymphoma several years ago, but this surgery was not felt to be related to that illness.
