Windstream, the Arkansas-based telecommunications company which has operations in Rochester, has announced some local layoffs.
24 people were cut recently in various parts of the company in Rochester. Windstream employs about 850 people in Monroe County, and more than 13,000 employees overall.
A company spokesman says that while Windstream continues to invest in strategic growth areas fo the business, it has to be disciplined about its overall cost structure and that forces it to have to sometimes make tough decisions about employees.
During its most recent earnings call, Windstream talked about implementing some workforce changes to operate more efficiently.
