Two Children Hurt on State Fair Coaster

SYRACUSE (AP) Officials say two children were checked out at the New York State Fair's infirmary after two roller coaster cars bumped into each other during a ride.

Troy Waffner, acting fair director, tells the Syracuse Post-Standard he visited the children in the infirmary after the noontime incident Friday and talked to them. He said they were "shaken up a little.''

Waffner said two cars bumped into each other, apparently because of a combination of "minor mechanical error and a minor operator error.''

The ride, the Comet II, was shut down Friday afternoon.

Inspectors from the state Department of Labor and Department of Agriculture and Markets are investigating.
