It's called the Crash Map, and it uses data points from the Department of Transportation laid over a Google Map to show all kinds of traffic accidents -- collisions with other cars, pedestrians, cyclists, even deer.
Livadas Consulting put the map together for free for the transit advocacy group Reconnect Rochester. The group says it's intended to be a tool that the community can use to make personal decisions about their mode of transportation, or structural decisions about city planning.
Mike Governale is the President of Reconnect Rochester. He says they originally got all the information in lists and spreadsheets, but decided a map was a more effective delivery system. He says they plan to add to the map to make it even more detailed.
"There are things that in this first iteration that we haven't included such as the root causes of the accident: Was is due to an impaired driver? Distracted driving? Stuff like that."
The map is available on the Reconnect Rochester website.
