The Monroe County Sheriff’s Department is releasing more information about the brutal death of a 7-year-old boy in the Town of Sweden on Thursday night.

Sheriff Todd Baxter says that at 8:19 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call for a suicidal woman armed with a knife on South Lake Road.  When deputies got there, they say they told the woman, 36 year old Hanane Mouhib, to drop the knife she was holding. They say when she disregarded that order, they used pepper spray and a Taser to get her to drop the knife.

During a search of the home, they found the body of Mouhib’s son, 7 year old Abraham Cardenas.  Deputies say the boy had stab wounds to his back and neck, causing him to be decapitated.

Baxter says that, “I will never find the words to adequately describe, or reconcile with what happened inside Abraham Cardenas’ home last evening. A young boy with a life full of promise ahead of him is no longer with us to hope, prosper, and fulfill his dreams.”

Mouhib was charged with second-degree murder and ordered held without bail. Deputies say the boy’s father, along with a sibling and the victim’s grandmother were also home at the time of the stabbing.

The Sheriff says that deputies had been called to the home twice in March, by a woman seeking help with mental health difficulties. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Cardenas was a student in Brockport, and District Superintendent Lesli Myers sent this statement:

"We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our students. Abraham Cardenas was a first-grader at Barclay Elementary School. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Abraham’s family, friends and all affected by this tragedy. Any loss of life is a loss to our entire community. Our district’s Trauma, Illness and Grief team was immediately mobilized upon learning of this tragedy. We will have counselors available to provide support this weekend and throughout the week for students, staff and families in need."
