Town of Irondequoit still searching for cause of Christmas Eve fire

TWC NEWS

Irondequoit Town Supervisor Dave Seeley said they are still assessing damages after a fire late Christmas Eve, as well as how everyday operations will be impacted.

"Where will we put the dispatch, where will the workforce - we have about 60 men and women that come to work in that department every day, where will they go?"

The dispatch center which was badly damaged in the fire is set to be temporarily relocated to Camp Eastman.

But Seeley said they are also looking at the old Public Library on East Ridge Road. The library is up for sale but already equipped with the town's IT infrastructure.

Seeley held a meeting Monday morning with town leaders to discuss and prioritize what was lost.

"You’re not just talking about the structure that was lost; you’re talking about roughly a dozen vehicles, some of which are worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. You’re also talking about some heavy equipment, our mechanic shop was there."

The fleet was the biggest loss to the town. Most of their sewer and storm water trucks were lost in the fire, as well as some snow plows.

Despite the significant losses, Seeley believes there won’t be any lapse or disruption in the services the department provides, and says by week’s end they hope to be fully equipped with loaner trucks from neighboring towns.

The cause for the fire is still under investigation.
