The public is invited to a town hall-style meeting at the Susan B. Anthony House and Museum tonight.
The organization's president and CEO, Deborah Hughes, says they want to hear people's thoughts about which woman should appear on the $10 bill when it's redesigned in 2020.
And this meeting is not about drumming up support for Rochester's celebrated suffragette.
"Susan B. Anthony herself would say 'Fine, put me on the $10 or $20 bill,' but really, she would rather see us pass the equal rights amendment or make sure that we have human rights across the country and across the world,” Hughes said. “That would be much more important to her than having her visage on a bill."
Hughes said there is a long list of female historic figures who could be considered, from Anthony to Harriet Tubman and American literary icons.
Tonight’s discussion is part of a national conversation and Hughes said they are planning to record each person's recommendation and send that to the Treasury Department.
The meeting is 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Susan B. Anthony House and museum at 17 Madison Street in Rochester. An RPO brass quintet will be performing in the Susan B. Anthony Square Park following the meeting.
