Officials at Tops Supermarkets are unveiling a new look for some of their stores as well as more investment in the Rochester area. The Buffalo based retailer announced a prototype for its new store at Depot Plaza on East Ridge Road in Irondequoit on Thursday.

President and CEO Frank Curci says the new store will be the first of its type in the Rochester area and will have all the modern conveniences shoppers would expect. That includes a prepared foods section, additional bakery products, and meat and seafood.

"...all of those things laid out in a much more efficient way. We actually used much more of the space within the stores so the aisles can be wider and so that the shopping experience can be better and we have a gas station on the store so people can use their Tops gas points."

Curci says Tops is investing $13 million  in Monroe County, including putting in a new store on Jefferson Road in Henrietta and making improvements to its Brighton store on Clinton Avenue.
