Bells tolled at 2:30 p.m. followed by a moment of silence Wednesday on the campus of SUNY Geneseo, where students, staff and faculty continue to mourn the tragic deaths of two students and a former student.
Kelsey Annese and Matthew Hutchinson, police say, were fatally stabbed early Sunday in Kelsey's home near campus. Colin Kingston, who investigators say was distraught over his breakup with Annese, then took his own life.
Josh Williams, publisher of the online news publication Genesee Sun, said he will not be publishing any further details that may emerge about the personal tragedies that led to the murder-suicide.
"I don't see there being a net gain from taking this further. We need to talk about the healing process,” he said. “We need to celebrate the two lives that were lost there - Matthew and Kelsey. Anything beyond that is salacious at this point, and that is my own opinion."
For Williams, the grief over the events this week has brought back difficult memories of the loss of his brother to suicide in 1994 and a best friend who died in a murder-suicide. He said members of the Geneseo community should comfort one another at this time.
A remembrance ceremony was held Wednesday night at the Kuhl Gymnasium at SUNY Geneseo.
