Time Warner Shuffles Cable Lineup

If you are a Time Warner cable customer get ready for some changes to your TV lineup.

Time Warner says it will introduce the new lineup in the Rochester area in mid-October, and it will mean a lot of your favorite stations may be getting new channel assignments. Company spokesperson Joli Plucknette-Farmen says the new lineup groups stations by themes....for instance, stations are grouped together by genres like news and information, entertainment, sports, life style and local programming.

"And it will make it much simpler and easier to navigate through our lineup and quickly find what they want to view and hopefully discover new programming.”

But word of the move brings some concerns by TV station operators. At our own WXXI-TV in Rochester, program director Irene Fink notes that of the three WXXI-TV stations, the main station will be on 1221, while two other WXXI channels are at 1275 (WXXI D2 World) and 1276. (WXXI D3 Create)

"It seems like this would have been a great opportunity for them to put our channels together, I'm confused as to what they define as a genre, if it's public television, why our three channels are not bunched together, I don't know ."

Fink says with only about a month to prepare for the changes, WXXI and a number of other TV stations will really have to scramble to get the word out to their viewers about where to find them. Time Warner says it is hoping to standardize the channel position for a number of the networks it carries so that they are on the same channel number across the country. Channels one through 99 are not affected by the upcoming switch.
