Cable TV rates are going up again. Time Warner is now in the process of notifying customers in the Rochester area.
The cable company says rates are going up an average 6.4 percent. The increase varies depending on the menu of products you order from Time Warner, and in fact, spokesperson Joli Plucknette-Farmen says that around 70 percent of customers won't see any change right away, because they are currently in promotional packages.
She says the increases are needed due to higher costs as well as money that Time Warner has been spending to upgrade their system.
"Our price changes reflect enhancements that we've made to our products and services, programming costs and the investment to our network."
The increases include a new item you'll see on your bill. It's a $2.25 charge that will be on a separate line, called a 'broadcast TV fee.' Time Warner says the fee is needed to help pay the rising programming costs that involve local broadcasters.
Earlier this month, Comcast said it had agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for $45 billion but that deal still has regulatory hurdles to overcome.
