Tentative contract reached for two union locals at UR

Officials with the University of Rochester and two labor groups say a tentative agreement has been reached on a new contract for a number of service workers.

The labor pact affects about 1,800 members of two union locals who are part of the Service Employees International Union, SEIU Local 200United, and 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East.

The affect employees include patient care technicians, nursing unit secretaries, environmental service and facilities employees, food service, transportation, and materials processing staff at the University of Rochester and Strong Memorial Hospital.

The previous contract expired September 16, but it was extended while the talks continued with the help of a federal mediator.

The tentative contract still needs to be approved by the union membership. They will  vote on the agreement on October 3. Details of the pact will be released after the vote.
