Temporary TSA Pre✓ Center opens at Rochester's airport

The Transportation Security Administration has opened a temporary application center for its popular TSA Pre✓ program inside the Greater Rochester International Airport.

Spokesperson for the TSA, Lisa Farbstein, says U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents can pre-enroll in the program, which is designed to expedite the screening process at airports.

"It allows people who are enrolled in the program to go through the checkpoint faster because they are allowed to keep on their shoes, their light outwear jacket, they can keep their liquids/gels and aerosols in a carry-on bag -- they don't have to take them out and put them in the bin.  They don't have to take their laptop out of its carrying case and put that in the bin," she said.

Farbstein says TSA Pre✓ is one of their more popular programs.

"It's super popular with passengers because it's convenient.  From the TSA perspective, it's an enhancement of security, and that's because when you enroll in Pre✓, you're providing more personal information about yourself, including your fingerprints," she said.

The Pre✓ application fee is $85.00 for five years.

The application center at the Rochester International Airport will be open until March 10th.

More than 180 airports are participating in TSA Pre✓ nationwide.
