Suspect Shot In Pittsford; Deputy OK

Monroe County Sheriffs Department

A suspect was shot in a confrontation with a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy in Pittsford late Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff Patrick O’Flynn says that deputies responded to a call at the Wegmans’ store on Monroe Avenue for a report of a shoplifter.  He says the suspect tried to leave the scene in a stolen car, and after crashing into a parked vehicle, the suspect fled on foot across the avenue.

A female sheriff’s deputy who responded to the scene reportedly confronted the man behind the M&T bank. O’Flynn says the man brandished a weapon and shots were fired and the suspect was taken into custody.

The deputy was not injured. The suspect suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to Strong Hospital.
