Suspect dead after authorities say he pointed gun at deputy in Genesee County

One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting in the Genesee County town of Pembroke late Thursday night.

Media reports quote the Genesee County Undersheriff as saying that deputies responded to the Log Cabin restaurant on Gilmore Road for a report of shots being fired at about 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

He says when deputies got there, they found the suspect in the parking lot. Walker told The Bataviannewspaper that the deputies yelled commands to him and at that point the man pointed a gun toward one of their officers, and Walker says his deputy shot and killed the suspect.

No one else was injured. There were several customers and staff in the restaurant when the shooting happened. Walker is quoted in the The Batavian as saying the suspect was armed with a handgun and deputies were told before they got there that there was confirmation of shots being fired at the location.

The suspect has now been identified as 61 year old Keith Kent of Albion.

State Police and the Genesee County Sheriff's Department are involved in the investigation of the incident.
