Sunday's "Priority" For Package Delivery

USPS winter package delivery to customer

Perhaps only Santa is more reliable at this time of year.

"It's getting to the point, where, in the month of December, six days a week just isn't enough to get all the packages delivered."

Postal Service spokesperson Karen Mazurkiewicz says neither rain, snow, nor crush of packages will keep the post office from adding more delivery days.

Mazurkiewicz told WXXI that their package delivery business is growing, and in December, they need an extra effort. "It's getting to the point, where, in the month of December, six days a week just isn't enough to get all the packages delivered, especially to meet that December 25th 'Very Important Deadline.' So, yeah, we are looking, especially in some of our bigger post offices to get the carriers out there on Sunday."

Not in every town, but, from larger branches. "Obviously, the Rochester city area could see that, and then some of the larger post offices in and around Rochester. You know, like Webster, Canandaigua and Geneva."

Mazurkiewicz says if they need to work an extra day to keep up with the holiday demands, they will. "As customers go more to the internet to purchase their items, and there are people across the country sending gifts from one end to the other. We're seeing a double-digit increase in volume, and that means an extra delivery day for some places."

“We're trying to leverage our infrastructure, our ability to be in every city, every neighborhood, and then we're gonna do it one extra day, where, as necessary, and where we can.”
