The incoming president of student government at Rochester Institute of Technology is very grateful for the work retiring RIT president Bill Destler has done.
Andrea Shaver says Destler announced in 2007 that he was going to be at RIT for ten years, and it's not surprising that he's retiring next year.
"His ten years will be ending next year, and we're so thankful for his and Dr. Rebecca Johnson's service to the university but also excited to look forward to the future," she says.
Dr. Johnson is Destler's wife, who also works with RIT.
Shaver says Destler has done a lot for the university to change it.
"We've seen the diversity increase, we've seen the number of females increase, we've seen tons of programs added, including the Imagine RIT festival which has been an awesome tool to help market the university, so he's done a lot," she says.
Shaver adds Dr. Destler came to the school as an outsider, and helped bring out the university's identity.
