A proposed multi-purpose domed stadium in downtown Buffalo could have a Rochester feel. The Strong is considering operating a 150,000-square foot North American Museum of Sports and Culture as part of the stadium complex proposed for Buffalo's Outer Harbor waterfront.
In a press release from The Strong, President and CEO G. Rollie Adams says he believes that the museum would be an economic and cultural boost for the region:
"There is no museum anywhere like the one we are proposing, and it would add a dynamic new economic and cultural dimension to Buffalo and the entire international Toronto-Buffalo-Rochester region and beyond. As envisioned, the museum would combine engaging, hands-on experiences; historical artifacts, memorabilia, and collections; permanent and rotating exhibits; special events; school and other education programs; and community outreach activities.”
The $1.4 billion stadium project has been developed by the Greater Buffalo Sports and Entertainment Complex LLC. In addition to the stadium, the museum would be one of two principal anchors in the proposed complex, which might also include a hotel, restaurants, and retail.
