Strong Hospital has received the approval needed from the state health department for putting an ambulatory surgery center at the former Lakeside Hospital in Brockport.
A final review by another state agency will take place over the next several weeks. Construction is expected to begin in April on the project, which includes renovations to three operating rooms and patient care areas.
Officials say the unit will provide same-day outpatient services including surgical and G-I procedures. The U of R Medical Center is still working with the state to get approval for a full-service, freestanding Emergency Department.
URMC purchased the former Lakeside Hospital facility after it closed last year.
