noaa.gov

Thunderstorms came rolling through Western NY and the Finger Lakes on Monday night, at one point leaving nearly 11,000 RG&E customers without power. About 7600 of those were in Monroe County and about 2500 in Ontario County.

As of early Wednesday morning, RG&E reported about 4500 customers without power in Monroe County.

NYSEGabout 1400  customers without power early Wednesday morning in Yates County.

National Grid had some scattered outages throughout Western NY.

Many power lines and trees were reported down, particularly on the northwest side of the county, and hitting areas like Ogden, Spencerport and Gates.

Authorities in Gates responded to numerous calls for downed lines on Elmgrove Road. Elmgrove Road between Lyell Road and Route 531 in Gates was closed early Wednesday after a utility pole came down on a vehicle there.

Heavy rains and strong winds also caused problems for drivers throughout the region.

Storms earlier,  during Monday afternoon,  caused similar problems in towns in eastern Monroe County, including Brighton, Pittsford and East Rochester.

The storms cleared out of the area overnight, but work on fixing power lines, and clearing downed trees will continue throughout Wednesday.
