St. John Fisher College has named a new president. The college has hired Gerard Rooney, who is currently Executive Vice President for Enrollment, Advancement and Planning at Fisher, to be its 7th president.
Rooney will replace Donald Bain, who announced his retirement last year. Bain has had a 40 year career at Fisher, and became president in 2004.
Rooney's appointment takes effect in July. A statement issued by Board of Trustees Board Chair Victor Salerno and Vice Chair Martin Birmingham, said that Rooney's proven track record at Fisher by leading key strategic initiatives for nearly 20 years make him the right choice for the post.
The appointment came after a six-month national search, and the search committee included representatives from the board, faculty, staff and student body.
