Spectrum increases internet speed in Rochester

Spectrum has increased the starting download speed of its internet service in Rochester from 60 to 100 Mbps with no change in price.

The company says the faster 100Mbps speeds are available now to new Spectrum internet customers and they have automatically increased speeds for current residential and business clients.

Charter Communications acquired Time Warner Cable last year, and it was re-branded under the Spectrum name.

Spectrum introduced its new packaging and pricing to consumers in Rochester last March.  The company says a small percentage of Spectrum internet customers will need a new modem to receive the faster speeds; affected customers will be contacted directly with details.

The upgrade in speed will not apply to existing customers who are still participating in a legacy plan from Time Warner Cable. Those customers would need to switch to Spectrum plans and pricing  to get the faster speeds.
