Senator Schumer to Discuss Funding to Prevent School Violence in Fairport

Sen. Charles Schumer
Sen. Charles Schumer

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer wants to see more New York Schools implement safety upgrades, but he says the money should NOT come out of funding normally allocated for educational programs.

The senator will be at Fairport High School this afternoon at 2 discussing cuts in federal funding for anti-violence efforts in schools.

In a statement, the senator says these cuts in funds that could be used to purchase technology, like security cameras, put schools at risk for tragic violent events.

Schumer wants to see teachers and staff receive safety training, and more schools employ safety officers.

The school officials from around the greater Rochester Area will join the senator today.
