Spectrum News

UPDATE: Monday-6:00 a.m.

The search continues for a suspect in the shooting and wounded of an RPD officer over the weekend. 36 year old Jeremy Nash was shot late Saturday night on the northeast side, while responding to an unrelated call.

Chief Michael Ciminelli has said Nash was shot "near his face" but did not provide additional details about the injury. Nash remains in stable condition at Rochester General Hospital.

On Sunday police say they used a search warrant at  house at 997 North Street, and recovered a small caliber rifle. But they say that gun is unrelated to the shooting of the officer

UPDATE: as of 9:20 a.m. Sunday

During a 9am media briefing, RPD Chief Michael Ciminelli said that the ‘tactical’ part of the overnight investigation has ended, but a portion of North St. remained closed on Sunday morning.

He did not release any more details on the type of wounds Officer Nash suffered, but said Nash is in good spirits considering the circumstances.

Ciminelli thanked the many people in the Rochester area who have expressed thoughts of concern for the injured officer, and also praised the cooperation of people in that neighborhood that police interviewed.

The chief also says a number of law enforcement agencies have been helping with the investigation. He says Nash was on his way to an unrelated call when he was shot.

There is no word yet of any suspects. Ciminelli says there is the possibility that Officer Nash was targeted.

PREVIOUS INFO:

A Rochester Police  Officer was shot and wounded late Saturday night. It happened on North Street.

Police Chief Michael Ciminelli says the officer, now identified as 36 year old Jeremy Nash, was shot near his face and that the injury is non-life threatening.

Nash is an 11-year RPD veteran.

There was no additional detail about the injury when the information was first released.

The officer was taken to Rochester General Hospital for treatment. He was admitted in stable condition.

Mayor Lovely Warren, and Deputy Mayor Cedric Alexander (who is a former RPD Chief), headed over to the hospital to check on the officer and his family.

Warren said that she is, "thankful to God," that Nash's life was spared. She asked the community to remember that, "our officers are human beings, they have families, and they deserve to be able to go home to their families."  Warren said Nash has a 3 week old daughter.

A several block area in that part of northeast Rochester was cordoned off during the investigation. There is no word yet on a suspect, but that intensive manhunt is expected to continue through Sunday morning.

Irondequoit Police, State Police and Monroe County deputies also assisted in the investigation.
