Search for Glazers' Plane Suspended

A search for a plane carrying Larry and Jane Glazer was suspended Sunday afternoon.

Coast Guard officials express their sympathies to the Glazer family, and say after an extensive 70 hour search that used both air and sea craft, very little could be recovered.

Petty Officer Sabrina LaBerdesque says searchers spent most of the weekend looking to no avail.

"The search area was complete saturated several times with multiple assets, resources, and a lot of crew effort. The persons in distress were still not located. So the decision to suspend the case came about because we were unable to locate a debris field," LaBerdesque told WXXI.

Major Basil Jarrett of the Jamaican Defense Force explained crews discontinued their 3,700 square mile search when it was clear that any recovery was unlikely.

"We have seen larger planes go missing without a trace. So, it's very unpredictable what would happen. The fortunate thing in this case is that it was relatively close to the land mass. So, we are maintaining a vigilance along the shorelines just in case something may wash up in the days to come," Jarrett said.

The Glazer’s plane took off from Rochester and was scheduled to land at noon in Naples, Florida. The plane became unresponsive to radio calls Friday before it went down 14 miles north of Port Antonio, Jamaica.
