Schumer Says Salt Mine Gets Permit For Rail Extension

americanrocksalt.com

New York Senator Charles Schumer says the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has approved a permit that will allow American Rock Salt in Livingston County to build a railroad extension.

Schumer says that extension will allow the company to increase production and add 30 jobs in the Mt. Morris area. He says it will also help sustain 150 current jobs.

A permit was needed before construction could begin due to the possibility that Native American remains and artifacts might be found on the site.  The agreement has established protocols for dealing with any possible artifacts unearthed during construction.

Schumer says the agreement requires  a professional archaeologist as well as monitors from the Seneca Nations to be on site during construction.
