Schumer Calls For Russia To Allow Yogurt Shipment

North Country Public Radio

New York Senator Chuck Schumer says the Russians are blocking a shipment of Greek Yogurt from getting to the Olympics.

He’s upset about it enough to write to the Russian Ambassador.

Schumer is calling on the diplomat, along with the head of the International Olympic Committee, to permit a delivery of Chobani Greek Yogurt to get into Sochi so the U.S.  athletes can enjoy it. Chobani is an official sponsor of the Olympics, but Schumer says the Russian government is not permitting their yogurt to enter Russia without very specific, and what the Senator calls, “unattainable Customs certifications.”

He says the yogurt is now sitting at the Newark Airport and he's worried it will just go to waste.  Schumer says the U-S Department of Agriculture is also pushing for a way to get the greek yogurt to the American athletes.

Chobani is made in Central NY.
