The City of Rochester is getting ready to give the annual civil service exam for prospective police officers, and as part of that, officials are again involved in an effort to increase the number of minority officers.
Those efforts include setting up tables with information at area churches, not only in the city but also in the suburbs.
Recruitment officer Christine Wilson was set up on Sunday at In Christ New Hope Ministry in Henrietta, and said that churches have been a good venue for this outreach.
“I think we’re making great progress our last two recruit classes were the highest numbers we had in minorities, so, coming out here and exposing ourselves to the churches is definitely getting the word out , it’s building our community to be stronger and we’re looking forward to qualified candidates.”
The civil service exam for applying to become a police officer will be held November 15th. The deadline for applications is October 3rd.
