Rochester and other cities that had considered housing some of the immigrant children from Central America won’t have to consider that possibility any longer.

Mayor Lovely Warren sent a letter to about 30 representatives of various human services agencies telling them that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has informed Rochester and other cities that it is no longer seeking temporary facilities to shelter the unaccompanied minors.

In her letter, Warren does she was “overwhelmed at the support that our service-providers, faith leaders and other concerned citizens were willing to offer these children in need.”

Warren says the news from the federal government ends the need to further discuss the housing options but if things change, she will be in touch.
