The Rochester area saw a gain of 3,400 private sector jobs in February compared to last year.
That's according to new numbers from the State Labor Department, and regional analyst John Slenker says a number of sectors saw growth, particularly jobs in the education and health areas.
He does say that even if some months have not seen large gains, we've been pretty consistent over the last several years.
"We have had positive gains going back almost continuously since mid-2010 . We took a big hit when we had the recession and then you get a little bit of a bounce but this has been pretty prolonged."
Other sectors that saw increases include financial and business services and construction.
Slenker says the fact that the working population is aging, could help job seekers in the long run.
"As more people retire, there will be more openings…let's say the number of jobs remains constant, as more people retire maybe not every job will be replaced but the vast majority of them will be."
The state unemployment rate in February was 5.8 percent, down about a point compared to last year at this time. The Rochester numbers will be out next week.
