Rochester is getting some attention in a new documentary based that focuses on the environmental advocacy of former Vice President Al Gore.

The film is a follow-up to An Inconvenient Truth, which looked at the causes and impacts of global warming.

The new documentary is called An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, and the promotional trailer for the film starts with comments then-candidate for President Donald Trump made in a chilly airplane hangar in Rochester on April 10 of last year.

“It’s supposed to be 70 degrees today, it’s freezing here, speaking of global warming, where is…, we need some global warming.”

The high temperature that day was 39 degrees, about 15 degrees below the normal high for that date.

Also in that same trailer, Gore talks about the destruction caused by storms, which he says are examples of global warming.

“The next generation would be justified in looking back at us and asking, ‘What were you thinking, couldn’t you hear what the scientists were saying, couldn’t you hear what Mother Nature was screaming at you?’”

The film will open locally, at The Little Theatre, which is operated by WXXI, on Aug. 4.

Randy Gorbman is WXXI's director of news and public affairs. Randy manages the day-to-day operations of WXXI News on radio, television, and online.
