Rochester's Fire Chief John Caufield is leaving to join the National Fire Prevention Association.
His last day on the job will be April 27th.
Caufield will start his new position as the mid-Atlantic regional director of the NFPA April 30th
Mayor Tom Richards says Caufield has epitomized the sense of "service before self" in his 26 years of firefighting.
Caufield was named fire chief in 2007. He says during his time with the RFD, he's been amazed by the level of accomplishment of the department, and says it's been an honor to be a small part of it.
Executive Deputy Chief Salvatore "Sam" Mitrano will be interim chief while the city searches for a permanent replacement.
