Rochester Area Community Foundation receives $5 million donation from Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation

The Rochester Area Community Foundation will receive a $5 million donation from the foundation created by the late Buffalo Bills founder, Ralph Wilson.

Community Foundation President Jennifer Leonard says that gift will establish an endowment at the foundation to support current and new youth sports programs.

“We are looking to expand the accessibility, availability and quality of youth sports, so that all kids have access to high quality, varied youth sports experiences and are taught by coaches who are professionally prepared.”

As part of the donation, the community foundation will work with the Aspen Institute to study the existing youth sports opportunities in the region and find out where gaps exist.

Leonard says this money will provide grants on an ongoing basis to help youth sports in a number of ways.

“That includes facility needs, training needs for coaches, the availability of youth sports in some of the lower income areas of our region.”

The president of the Ralph Wilson Foundation, David Egner, says the fund will allow the organization to permanently support very localized projects.
