RIT Says Research Funding Is Up 12 Percent

RIT says its sponsored research portfolio grew by 12 percent in the current fiscal year, reaching nearly $53 million in funding.

The university says it received a record 410 new awards  this year from a variety of state, federal, corporate and foundation sponsors. Officials say it has included funding for new areas such as health-related technology and computing and information security. RIT says it is also growing in terms of receiving funding for some of its traditional areas such as sustainability and imaging science.

Officials say this happens as RIT is on the verge of moving into the national research category which is used to classify universities. That designation is based on the number of Ph.D. degrees awarded. RIT had a record 29 graduates earn their doctorates this past spring.
