Resolving to Eat Better in 2015

Many of us will indulge in rich foods and high-calorie drinks during our New Year’s Eve celebrations, as we have throughout this holiday season. BUT come New Year’s Day on Thursday many of us will resolve to eat better or lose weight.

Rochester Dietitian, Heather Fiore says the solution is NOT one size fits all.

"Everyone should eat more fruits and vegetables. Everyone should eat more whole foods and get away from processed foods. Everyone should do some kind of exercise most days the week. But what that ends up looking like, as far as actual foods and actual exercise, really does vary person to person."

Avoid the temptation of the quick fix, she says.

"The really difficult work of establishing a healthy habit isn't rocket science, but it's not exciting either. It doesn't get you the results that you want as quickly, so we're not attracted to that."

Fiore says it’s easier to achieve healthy goals with help from organizations like Over-eaters Anonymous or a registered dietitian.
