Proposal For 'Pocket Park' Near The Filled-In Inner Loop

A local businessman is proposing a way to enhance the appearance of one of the gateways into Downtown Rochester.

Antique dealer Jack Darcy is proposing a ‘pocket park,’ basically a small urban park,  for an area near Monroe Avenue, the Inner Loop and Strong Museum.

It’s in conjunction with the city’s request for proposals for the eastern end of the Inner Loop, which is being filled in as part of redevelopment efforts in that area.

Darcy is proposing a park that would include green space and other amenities.

“Right now we’re looking at doing a butterfly garden in conjunction with the Strong Museum, we’re also looking at doing possibly a clock tower, fountains, sculpture, that type of thing.”

Darcy says it’s important to beautify that area.

“When you come in to downtown Rochester it would be really great to see something green, and attractive, eye-catching. We think this is going to help in terms of promoting other development downtown and make downtown a more livable area for people.”

Darcy owns the nearby Rochester Antique Market and Galleries.

A spokesperson for the city says they are still gathering information and waiting for the proposal process to be completed.

Darcy says he’s interested in input from the public via email at  pocketpark@frontier.com.
