Rochester School Superintendent Bolgen Vargas has proposed a plan that could see some district schools managed by area colleges and universities. Vargas revealed some details of his plan to boost student achievment during a school board meeting on Monday.
Among Vargas' proposals, using a model that he says is being used in Buffalo and New York City, where the district contracts with colleges and universities to manage one or more city schools. Under the agreements, the teachers and staff would remain district employees, but the sponsoring college or university would receive district funding.
Other ideas floated by Vargas include beefing up career and technical education programs, expanding summer learning and establishing a task force to address student behavior issues.
Vargas says he will present more details about his proposals in a plan to be released next month and in his upcoming budget proposal.
