Project T.I.P.S Hosts 3rd Event

Members of local enforcement and community agencies held its 3rd Project T.I.P.S event of the year in the Jefferson Avenue neighborhood on Thursday.

T.I.P.S stands for Trust, Information, Programs and Services.

T.I.P.S  organizer Gary Mervis says neighborhood families will also have a chance to build relationships with fire fighters, police officers, state troopers and now people from the border patrol.

"When the only time they normally see them is when they are doing their job,” says Mervis. “When they're executing a warrant or they are arresting someone that they know or stopping someone while they are in a car. And you don't form a friendship or a relationship that way."

The T.I.P.S event also provides residents with information about services and programs that are available to them.

Mervis believes the event helps police solve more crimes.

"The reason they are being solved because people that are living in the communities they are coming forward. They are not afraid to share. They realize part of being a good citizen is sharing. I think that's this whole thing with if you see something say something.”

The Project T.I.P.S is being held at School Number 4 on the corner of Dr. Samuel McCree Way and Jefferson Avenue.
