Poll: Key items applauded despite lackluster budget ratings

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP)  New York voters say they are uninspired with the state's new budget overall, but are optimistic about headline items promoted by lawmakers and Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

A Siena College poll released Monday found only 22 percent of voters ranked the budget as excellent or good.

More than two-thirds of respondents say specific initiatives like a $2.5 billion water infrastructure fund, allowing ride-hailing services to operate upstate, and free college tuition for middle class families will improve New York.

The budget passed more than a week late, a first for Cuomo, whose 54-37 percent favorability rating was fairly consistent with 54-40 percent last month.

President Donald Trump received a 34-61 favorability rating in the poll.

The April 17-20 survey of 714 registered voters has a margin of error of 4.1 percent
