Voters in Pittsford consider a referendum Tuesday on a proposal to spend $9.3 million to finance the complete renovation and expansion of the Spiegel Community Center.
Town Supervisor Bill Smith says the town board has recommended the plan as a reasonable way forward, somewhere between a band-aid fix for the current building and putting up an entirely new building.
He says the proposal would give residents a first-class community center that would accommodate reasonable growth over time.
Originally the project was intended to deal with repairs and restoration of the building on Lincoln Avenue, and officials say while looking at the facility another needs surfaced including better meeting space, increased parking and improved access for those with differing abilities.
The project would end up costing homeowners with an average assessment about $69 a year for 15 years.
The vote will be held Tuesday from 7am to 9pm at King’s Bend Park, 170 Jefferson Road.
