Paychex survey shows small business job growth consistent with last year

A new survey from Paychex on small business hiring shows a slight decline in November, but at a pace of growth consistent with where hiring was nationally last year at this time.

That according to Paychex CEO Marty Mucci, who says it appears hiring peaked in June, and trended slightly lower after that time. He says that may be due to uncertainty that small business owners had about the election.

Although president-elect Donald Trump still has some time to go before he takes office, Mucci says it appears some small business owners are looking forward to less government regulation in the future.

“Definitely feeling like this will be less regulation and that it will be more of a pro-business (government), that still has to be seen, but it sounds like that when you see lower taxes, lower corporate tax rate, overtime additional regulations being eliminated.”

Mucci says small business owners will likely still be somewhat cautious until Trump takes office and they see exactly what his administration will do.

Mucci says right now, the biggest growth in jobs at small businesses seems to be in the leisure and hospitality industries
