Paychex Small Business Index Increases In July

A monthly index that looks at employment levels among small businesses show somewhat of a rebound in July. That according to the CEO of the company that puts out the index, Paychex.  Marty Mucci says that after the index fell a little in June, it did better in July in terms of showing jobs added by small businesses across the country.

"We had a nice little jump back up in the Paychex/IHS small business survey and we still have the West, kind of the central and west really leading the regions from a small business growth prospective."

Mucci says the index for the Northeast didn't show as much growth as other parts of the country.

But he says that is partly because of the fact that jobs in this part of the nation didn't fall as much as other areas of the U-S during the recession, so comparatively speaking, we just haven't seen as much growth.

Mucci says another positive sign is that there seems to be an increase in jobs for service type businesses, such as personal care, pet care and laundry services. He says that's an indication people are more willing to spend discretionary income.
